Alice Verstaen, PhD
About Me
I am a clinical psychologist with over 10 years of experience working with older adults and caregivers. My training and clinical practice has focused on building resilience while navigating challenges that come with aging, supporting dementia caregivers and families, and addressing grief and anxiety.
I approach therapeutic relationships from a collaborative and evidence-based lens, so that we can work together to optimize your therapy based on your specific needs.
Areas of Expertise
Anxiety, Grief, and Life Transitions: I work collaboratively with clients to identify areas causing difficulties or distress; together, we develop concrete skills to help manage these challenges.
End of Life: I provide support for clients—and their families, if needed—to help navigate challenges at end of life.
Dementia Caregiving: I work with clients who are caring for loved ones with dementia, helping them identify the primary challenges and behaviors they or their loved ones may face, while also supporting their efforts to maintain their own well-being and mood.
Professional Experience
I earned my doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of California, Berkeley. Over my career, I have held diverse roles, including:
Clinical Psychologist at the VA Puget Sound Healthcare System, Seattle
Clinical Quality Supervisor, managing and providing consultation for therapists
Researcher at UC Berkeley and UCSF, working with both dementia patients as well as family caregivers
Each of these experiences and roles have contributed to expertise in geriatric mental health. I look forward to building a collaborative and compassionate therapeutic relationship to help you with your goals.
